The program is divided into three parts, guided by a common exercise, close reading. We will begin by reading in detail poetic texts from different spaces and times—from Shakespeare to Rossetti, from Homer to Keats, from Kavafys to Sena, from Dylan [Thomas] to [Bob] Dylan, et al, which configure unique emotional speculations through words, and aesthetic expansions in the encounter with strong poetic antecedents, with philosophy, art, and cinema. We will then read, also in detail, Moby-Dick, for a meditation on the mannerist dimension of the novel. We will conclude with an analysis of two dramatic texts, Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, for an observation of tragic modeling in different historical circumstances. Taken together, these readings will allow us to reflect on concepts such as author, canon, ekphrasis, mask, otherness, inspiration, intertextuality, literary genre, parody, or... literature.
